1982 Keyhole Spade Special Order

Keyhole Spade touring bike
Southend, 1982

This 20 1/2-inch Keyhole Spade was a special order for a customer in England. The sales receipt gives the date as 10 July 1982 in Alf's writing. The original order form is also extant. The frame was originally fitted out as a touring bike with mud guards and a rack with matching frame number (extant). It was actively ridden by its first owner for 35 years; some of the original components are extant, and the original paint and transfers are intact. A few newer but period-correct components have been substituted for the original kit.

The current components include: Tange head set bearing, TA triple crankset, Normandy hubs, Weinmann rims, Michelin City 27-inch tires, original Weinmann brakes & levers, Campag GS seat pin and dt levers, Campag Rally rear mech, Suntour front changer, Brooks bar tape.
