Spyder
Tottenham, ca. 1971

This 20-inch track bike was built for a youth of 14 years in the early 1970s. Originally it was fitted with 27-inch wheels, which left no clearance for brakes, much less mud guards. The present (second) owner has converted it to 5-speeds using a Suntour V-Luxe mech--note the reverse-facing mech-hanger on the track end. Crankset is Chater Lea. The rear bridge has been bored to take Universal side pull brake calipers; 26-inch wheels were necessary to obtain sufficient clearance for the brake to function. The hubs are Campag Record lo-flange. Of particular note is the R.O.Harrison steel stem and the elegantly curved South of France handle bar. The unusual, three-color, metallic paint scheme--red, gold, blue--is original. The transfers are original.
