Magnum Bonum Spyder
touring bike
1984

One of the last Magnum Bonums made. Alf retired two years later in 1986 and sold the shop. After that, the Mag. Bonum was replaced by the Scorpion Bonum model. Mag. Bonums were part of the regular catalog offerings in the 1950s and 60s, but appear to have been made only as special orders in the later years. This one was ordered by Les Piper, who owned a number of other Hetchins as well. It was purchased 10 years later in unridden condition.

The geometry of the frame is gentle with a long wheelbase, ideal for touring. Seat tube height: 22 inches (c-to-c); top tube length: 22-1/2; bracket height: 9-1/2. The color is blue flam with gold trim.

The groupset is mixed: TA triple crankset, Dura Ace down tube levers and derailleurs (rear only indexed), Dura Ace brake levers, Suntour Superbe pedals, Cinelli handle bar and stem, Campag Delta brakes, Brooks Swift saddle on Dura Ace seat pin. It was originally fitted with 27" wheels on Mavic hubs; it is now fitted with 622 ERTRO wheels.
