The 33d Hetchins event almost took place the third w/e of July, 18th - 20th 2025, near Banbury (Oxf.). The weather forecast on Thursday the 17th called for rain the entire weekend, with thunder and lightning expected on Saturday, the day we had hoped to stage the main activities. The sun has set upon any Englishman (or Hamburg sailor) who shies away from cycling in the rain, but cycling in lightning is more than most would risk. It was with a heavy heart that Brian and I sent out an email to all participants on Thursday, cancelling the event. We did, however, leave open the luncheon engagement for Saturday, in case anyone might show up just to be sociable.

Arrived at The Castle, we were pleasantly surpised to greet a dozen more participants, some of whom had brought bicycles in case there should be a hiatus in Zeus's wrath. Pleasant conversation and luncheon ensued. |
By 3 p.m., there was a break in the cloud cover, the sun came out briefly, a dozen riders decided to make a run for it and get in at least a bit of cycling. |

Several Hetchins debuted at this event. Some non-Hetchins were also on the ride: a Carpenter, a Roy Cottingham, and a Raleigh.
